Weekend Recap

So, even though we're halfway through the week, I have decided to do the weekend recap post because it was successful money saving wise.

Again, apologies for being MIA the last couple of weeks. I've had a lot going on in my personal and professional life - all exciting changes! But it's taken up most of my time and how much I've been able to devote to the blog.

I have a business conference this weekend so things should *hopefully* be back to normal by the middle of next week. In the meantime, thanks to all of you who have kept coming back to the blog even though there was nothing new to read!

This past weekend was spent studying (literally the whole weekend!) so my boyfriend was sweet enough to suggest us going out to lunch and dinner to get me out of the house.

We went to the Olive Garden for lunch. Since I always fill up on breadsticks when I go, I suggested we split an entree. Since the entree comes with soup or unlimited salad, we decided to do that plus the soup, breadsticks, and salad lunch for 6.95 so we could both get our fix. Our entree was 10.95 (we got the Asiago Cheese ravioli which was quite tasty). We used a $10 gift card I got from a promotion so the grand total plus tax and tip came out to around $10.

For dinner, we went to our old stand-by, T.G.I. Friday's. I had an $8 gift certificate (I'm part of their loyalty program - for every $100 you spend, you get $8 back. Please note that we usually go to Friday's in a big group and split the check so we haven't actually spent $100, probably only 20 or 30). We went during happy hour so we got an appetizer at half price and then split an entree. Our total after our discount, tax and tip was $10.

So for $20 we got two decent meals out and I was able to keep my sanity by not being couped up in the house all weekend. But I didn't let go of my money saving ways ;)

80% Off Restaurant.com Gift Certificates!

This website specializes in selling gift certificates to a number of restaurants for a fraction of the cost. For example, you can usually get $25 gift cards for around $10 (but with the codes you’ll get here it’s usually only $2!).

The only catch is that it usually requires a minimum purchase ($25 cards is usually a minimum of $35) and tax and gratuity are added after the discount. But hey, $12 + tax and tip for a $35 dinner is not too shabby. The best part is that these certificates don't have an expiration date so you can save them for a special occasion.

Use the code LOVE at checkout to get $25 gift certificates for $2 (or $50 for $4)! Code valid until February 14th.

Weekend Recap: Superbowl Edition

First off, apologies for being MIA for the last couple of days. I am in the process of moving offices and on top of it I am sick.

This weekend was low-key but still fun. Saturday night, the boyfriend and I went out to dinner and used a coupon from the Entertainment Book so we only spent $20 including tax and tip for all you can eat Mongolian BBQ. Probably didn't need the "all you can eat" option but...

Yesterday we had a couple friends over for the Superbowl. We spent a total of $30 on food, drinks and dessert which was a lot better than spending probably close to $50 had we gone out to a bar to watch the game.

So I encourage you to get together with your friends when there's a big sporting event on. You can do a potluck or BYOB if you want to keep costs for everyone down. Not only will you save yourself money, but you'll avoid duking it out for an empty table at your local El Torito's.

Website Spotlight: Seat Guru

It's Thursday so that means it's time for Website Spotlight! Every week, I'll showcase a website that's helped me save money, time or just a great tool in helping you plan various things in your life.

This week, I'd like to share with you Seat Guru. This is a great tool to have, especially if you're thinking about planning a "Trip of the Month".

Before you book a flight, you can check seat guru to see details, not only of your seat, but of the plane as a whole. You can check if the plane is equipped with amenities such as wi-fi or what kind of movies are currently being offered on-board.

People who have recently taken the same plane, give their reviews on their seat, the service, and the airline in general. Basically, since it's sponsored by Trip Advisor, you get approval ratings per aircraft, just like you would a hotel.

Save yourself the agony of finding out after you get on board that your flight doesn't have personal screens or that there is only one bathroom for the whole cabin to share for a 5 hour flight (trust me, not pleasant).
